Low-power all-optical switch in a passive InGaAsP MQW waveguide directional coupler

Abstract

All-optical switching of a 30-ps pulse at 1.53 μm is demonstrated in an integrated In- GaAsP/InGaAsP MQW directional coupler with a resonant band-filling nonlinearity by using only diode-laser optical pumps. Switching is achieved for a coupled pulse energy of 100-pj.
