Abstract

Recently Mollmann and Gellermann reported passive stabilization of a synchronously mode-locked NaCI:OH laser1 by using coherent photon seeding (CPS). This technique uses an empty external cavity to feed back a highly attenuated (10−5 – 10−12) replica of the main laser pulse slightly in advance of the main-cavity pulse to suppress the destabilizing effects of spontaneous emission. 2-5 In this paper we present a rigorous numerical and experimental characterization of CPS applied to a NaCI:OH laser.
