Abstract

Dynamic single-mode (SM) distributed feedback (DFB) lasers at 1.3 μm and 1.55 μm are key devices in optical communication. Recently complex coupled (CC)-DFB lasers have been demonstrated as promising alternatives to the commonly used index-coupled DFB lasers.1–3 In the following some recent achievements of 1.3 μm and 1.55 μm CC-DFB lasers with a loss-grating are presented which clearly show the potential of this DFB-type for practical application.
