Abstract

Recent advances in the synthesis of novel strongly fluorescing laser dyes have renewed interest in dye-laser technology The pyrromethene-BF2 complex (PM) family of dye molecules have a laser performance that is superior that of rhodamine dyes in both liquids1 and solids.2 BASF perylimide dyes also exhibit reasonable laser efficiencies and stabilities.3 The purpose of this study is twofold: (1) to test the compatibility of four new PM dyes and two BASF perylimide laser dyes in a high-temperature plastic (HTP) and (2) to compare the laser performance (slope efficiencies and lifetimes) of the PM dyes to that of the perylimide dyes under 532-nm end-pumped conditions.2
