Abstract
Recent developments in sol–gel techniques offer promising prospects for introducing dyes into solid-state matrices, which can be prepared at temperatures much lower than the melting temperature of glasses. The potentiality of using organic modified silicate (ORMOSIL) as host matrices for solid-state lasers has been demonstrated. This material has better mechanical and thermal properties than do silicate gel and polymer.
