Abstract

It has been known that a Nd:YAG laser is capable of laser emission at 1.444 μm (eyesafe wavelength), which coincides with an absorption peak of water (26 cm−1) in this spectral region, but it was demonstrated only recently that efficient operation at this wavelength can be obtained in flashlamp-pumped Nd:YAG lasers.
