Abstract

Chromium-doped forsterite (Cr4+:Mg2SiO4) laser materials are of interest because this material permits the development of tunable solid-state sources in the 1.13–1.37- μm wavelength range. Since the first demonstration of laser operation several years ago,1 high-power operation,2 and mode-locked picosecond and femtosecond operation have been achieved in this material.
