Abstract

Illumination systems, such as metal halide and Xenon arc lamps, that are used for large screen video and film projectors are mature technologies that are unlikely to undergo dramatic improvements in luminous efficiency any time soon. Recent increases in light output from LCD video projectors, for example, have been achieved primarily by refinements to illumination optics and to LCD deives, not through the use of brighter projection lamps.
