Abstract

Second-harmonic susceptibility of asymmetric or electrically biased GaAs/Al-GaAs quantum wells (QWs) can be exploited to realize frequency-conversion devices in the near-infrared.1,2 The calculated1,3 χ(2) values associated with interband transitions are in the range of 10-20 pm/V. Between the two nonzero components of the χ(2) tensor, χxzx(2), and χzxx(2), the second one should be much lower.1
