Abstract
A high-power, mirrorless free-electron laser (FEL) approach based on seeded single-pass amplifier with a prebunched highbrightness electron beam as a high-gain medium is presented. This approach depends on a high-current density produced by compressing the electron bunch containing a few nanocoulombs to a few picoseconds.1 The high-brightness beam can be focused to a small spot, resulting in a very high current density.
