Abstract
Supersonic continuous wave (cw) chemical oxygen-iodine laser (COIL) has been studied for many years. By using the rotating disk O2(1Δ) generator instead of sparger O2(lΔ) generator, and using supersonic gas flow instead of subsonic gas flow in the laser cavity, the laser output power has been greatly improved. We got 5-kW laser output power with Cl2 flow rate at 0.3 moles/second. A new rotating mesh O2(1Δ) generator was also invented, it shows many advantages over the rotating disk O2(1Δ) generator.
