Abstract

Silicon-on-insulator technology promises improved performance for CMOS electronic circuits. Significant efforts are under way to introduce SOI-CMOS electronics into production in the near future. Due to their unique optical properties, SOI structures offer the ability to integrate long-wavelength photonic devices into the CMOS integrated circuit (IC) process.
