Abstract

When chromium is doped into Y3Al5O12 (YAG), it substitues for aluminimun and normally occupies octahedral sites as Cr3+, However, the active center giving 1.35-1.6-μm emission is Cr4+, Therefore, obtaining high concentrations of Cr4+ and to therefore improve the NIR absorption, is the key to grow Cr4+-doped YAG crystals.
