Abstract
Researchers have made significant improvements in vertical-cavity lasers (VCLs) by use of thin apertures that confine the current and the optical mode.1-5 Both lateral wet etching4 and lateral oxidation1-3,5 of high Al-content AlGaAs layers have been used to form these constrictions, which we call dielectric apertures.
