Abstract

Lasing action is conclusively demonstrated for the first time in an optically pumped, vacuum deposited thin organic film consisting of DCM doped Alq3. Carrier transport properties of organics, combined with a low lasing threshold (1.5 μJ/cm2) open the door to an entirely new generation of diode lasers employing organic thin films.
