Self-switching fiber loops imbalanced by fiber dispersion

Abstract

The nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM)1 and the nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM)2 have been shown to possess optical switching properties3 when they are imbalanced by an asymmetric coupler and by an asymmetrically placed gain element, respectively.
