Use of a deformable mirror for astigmatism correction in a single-frequency Ti:sapphire, flash-lamp-pumped laser

Abstract

A deformable mirror surface is adjusted to match the distorted wavefront so that the reflected light passing through the laser rod is restored back to its original wavefront. Using this deformable mirror with the laser rod as one arm of a Michelson interferometer, the distorted wavefront can be corrected by monitoring the interference pattern.
