Abstract

Pattern recognition by optical Fourier transform1 combined with PC preprocessing has potential advantages over conventional serial electronic processing in such functions as instantaneous computation and spatial parallelism, although data transfer bottleneck between PC and optical processor so far has been the major barrier against realistic applications.
