Abstract
While near-IR vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers have advanced significantly in recent years, we are aware of only one earlier report of a short-cavity VCSEL operating at a wavelength longer than 2.4 μm—an optically-pumped HgCdTe structure that lased at λ=3.06 μm, but only at low temperature (30 K) and high threshold pump intensities (≤45 kW/cm2).1
