Abstract

Acousto-optic deflectors (AOD) have been used to scan laser beams in wideband photonic systems for processing images. The angle-sensitive characteristic of the AOD is inadequate for some photonic system applications such as true time delay phased array antenna, automatic target recognition and reconfigurable optical interconnects. To realize a compact system, the AOD used must exhibit a wide input angle while steering the output beam over a wide range of RF or output angles.
