40-Channel Optical Power Level Monitor with Micro Pyramid Mirrors Formed in Planar Lightwave Circuit

Abstract

Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) photonic networks require multichannel optical power level monitors for power distribution management and error management. With conventional monitoring methods, the same numbers of fiber couplers and Photo diodes (PDs) as the channel count are required. That limits possible reductions in package size and tost. To solve this problem, we have developed a compact and mass-productive 40-channel power level monitor based on a planer lightwave circuit (PLC).
