Abstract

The demonstration of mid-infrared laser (2-3μm) based on Cr2+ doped II–VI semiconductors has stimulated great for possible applications in remote sensing, medical surgery, as well as pump sources for optical parametric oscillators. Efficient and tunable mid-infrared lasers has been reported from Cr:ZnS, 1,2 Cr:ZnSe, 1,2 Cr: Cd0.85Mn0.15Te, 3,4 Cr:Cd0.35 Mn0.45Te, 5 and Cr: CdSe.6
