Abstract

A new scheme of high power fiber lasers has been developed with a large scaling law to over kW output. Typical fiber lasers during last decade generated 100W level output in cw mode using the clad pumping scheme. Clad pumping of fiber lasers was really a good scheme for high efficiency absorption and lasing. The pumping scalability is large in comparison with the core pumping in a typical clad pumping scheme. The cross section of the first clad is thousand-times larger than that of core cross section. However, the cross section area is still small because the fiber is thin enough. We proposed the side-pumping and circular pumping scheme for generating kW-class output by laser diode pumping.[1]
