Abstract

3R regeneration is essential for long haul all-optical networks to preserve data quality and improve transmission distance.1 In conventional 3R regeneration techniques two cascaded stages are required, one to recover the clock and the other to function as a nonlinear decision element.2 For example, three electro-absorption modulators were used in conjunction with electronic clock recovery to achieve 3R regeneration.3
