Abstract
The advantages of multimode fiber (MMF) and related components have led to the deployment of MMF using Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and, eventually 10 GbE. Furthermore, low-cost, high- bandwidth inter and intra cabinet optical links are needed for managing the large aggregate data rates of optical switching equipment. Unfortunately differential mode delay (DMD results in severe intersymbol interference limiting multimode fiber lengths to less than 550 m for 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps) transmission; 10-Gbps links are limited to less than 60 meters
