Abstract

Tunable all-fiber devices are attractive for their compactness, intrinsic low insertion loss and low PDL and ease of packaging. Electrically tuned fiber devices based on thermo-optic effect have been reported on FBG, 1 LPG2 and all fiber phase modulator. In this paper, we describe a simple and scalable process for fabricating arrays of thermally tuned fiber device that is compatible with low power electrical control signals. The process was used in fabricating a four-element polarization controller and a 30-element PDM emulator that exhibits accurate first order and second order PMD statistics.
