Transmission Performance Improvement of Fiber DFB Laser by Injection Locking

Abstract

Fiber Bragg grating based fiber lasers are attractive alternatives when compared to semiconductor lasers for applications in dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) communication systems because of their fabrication simplicity, low wavelength thermal drift, 1 as well as broadband tunability.2 In this paper, we proposed an active injection locking technique to further improve the transmission characteristics of a DFB fiber laser (DFB-FL). The degree of polarization and relative intensity noise (RIN) were substantially improved by this technique.
