Abstract

Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in solid state materials has been intensively investigated in the last years. A new RaWO4 crystal with the frequency shift of 925 cm−1 has been recently proposed1 as a promising candidate for high efficiency Raman scattering for pumping with laser pulses in the range from picoseconds to nanoseconds. One of the highest Raman gain values among the known solid-state Raman shifters in both steady state and transient pumping configurations were measured in this crystal.2,3 This encouraged us to further explore the Raman lasing properties of this new material in various configurations. Nd:YAG mode-locked, and two Q- switched Nd:YAP and Nd:YAG laser systems were used for nonlinear media pumping. The BaWO4 33-mm long sample was produced at General Physics Institute in Moscow, Russia. It had no antireflection coatings in our experiments.
