Abstract
Pulsed semiconductor lasers with quantum dots (QDs) as the active material are potential candidates for telecommunication applications. The inhomogeneously broadened gain spectrum of self-assembled QDs provides excellent tunability in the near-infrared wavelength region, 1 and first steps towards the generation of short optical pulses with mode-locking have been made.2
