Abstract
By reducing the number of directions in which an electron is free to move the electronic properties of a semiconductor are progressively modified such as to reduce the current needed to achieve optical gain and to reduce the temperature sensitivity of the threshold current. Recent developments in semiconductor growth have enabled researchers to explore the merits of zero-dimensional quantum dot structures.
