Abstract

Among different types of dynamic holographic materials, dye-doped liquid crystals (LC) are very attractive candidates for optoelectronic devices. They have large birefringence, optical selectivity and, as it was recently reported,1 photorefractive properties at extremely low writing light intensities. The photorefractive effect is attributed to light induced D.C. charge field and to resulting reorientation of the nematic director axis.
