Abstract
A second order susceptibility χ(2) due to the coupling of the third order glass susceptibility χ(3) with a DC built-in electric field Eind has been induced in different thermally poled glasses.1–2 In second harmonic generation experiments the high value of the induced electric field close to the anodic surface (E ~ 108 V/m) hides the field distribution in the bulk of the sample. Here, for the first time, using a technique based on Electric Field Induced Second Harmonic (EFISH), we measure the profile of the induced static electric field E in the bulk of the sample during and after the poling.
