Abstract

Mode-locked Cr:YAG (Cr4+:YAG) lasers are versatile tunable sources for studies in the optical communication window around 1.5 μm. Typically, Cr:YAG femtosecond lasers are pumped by multiwatt Nd:lasers at 1064 nm, which represent a significant proportion of their size and cost. Recently, acousto-optic mode-locking of a directly diode-pumped Cr:YAG laser that produces picosecond pulses at 1450 nmhasbeen reported.1 In this presentation we report, what is to our knowledge, the first demonstration of the passively mode-locked compact femtosecond Cr:YAG laser that uses a diode-pumped Yb-doped fiber laser.
