Two-dimensional Ferroelectricity Probed by SHG in Ferroelectric LB Monolayers

Abstract

The SHG technique was developed recently for studying FPPT in 2D ferroelectric polyvinyli- dene-fluoride with trifluoroethylene (PVDF/ TrFE) LB films contained several tens of mono- layers.1,2 The SHG probe allows to observe the ferroelectricity in 2D polymer LB structures without deposition of the cap electrodes on the film surfaces which can influence its ferroelectric and electronic properties. The failure of dielectric measurements in studying ferroelectric properties of the molecular monolayers as extreme case of 2D structures makes necessary the development of electrode-free techniques for probing low-dimensional ferroelectricity.
