Optical breakdown and filamentation in fused silica using femtosecond IR pulses

Abstract

The competition between optical breakdown and filamentation in bulk fused silica is analysed using a 1 kHz femtosecond infrared laser. The writing conditions (focal length, pulse energy) corresponding to the onset of these two phenomena are investigated.
