Abstract

Improvements in type-II “W” midwave-infrared lasers have led to an internal loss of < 3 cm−1, a Shockley-Read lifetime of >20 ns at 78 K, and photonic-crystal distributed-feedback devices with etendue within 8xDL for 600-μm-wide stripes.
