Optical switching applications of ZnSe/MgF2 photonic band gap structures based on thermal nonlinearities

Abstract

We studied a ZnSe/MgF2 multilayer in order to modulate its optical reflectance at a fixed wavelength, 628 nm. An electrically induced temperature increase is responsible for changes in the refractive index of the layers. As a result the reflected signal is decreased.
