Abstract

Quadratically [χ(2)] media have historically been used to generate new frequencies. Although textbook analysis has focused on small conversion with plane waves, many additional effects (cascading, beam distortion, multi-soliton generation, etc.) occur for high intensity, finite beams. They will be explained and reviewed.
