Transiently aligned molecular gases for efficient nonlinear frequency conversion

Abstract

We demonstrate that nonlinear gratings formed by a spatially modulated alignment pulse enable quasi phase-matched frequency conversion in aligned molecular gases. This process is simulated for third harmonic generation in a gas of linear molecules.
