Tapered Micro-structured Optical Fiber Pigtails for Waveguide Coupling

Abstract

We demonstrate pigtailed, tapered microstructured optical fiber couplers for use with high-index, small mode-field diameter waveguides. We achieve adiabatic reduction in mode field dimensions to less than 2 µm with low excess loss.
