Abstract

QPSK-homodyne detection using a polarization-multiplexed pilot-carrier in 2-bit/symbol transmission at 20 Gb/s was demonstrated. The proposed scheme provides a simple configuration for bandwidth efficient multi-bit-per-symbol homodyne detection without using an optical phase-locked loop.
