Towards Left-handed Metamaterials at Optical Frequencies

Abstract

We present metamaterials consisting of arrays of non-magnetic metallic split-rings with a magnetic resonance at 100 THz frequency. The magnetic response originates from coupling of the incident radiation to the LC resonance of the split-rings.
