Lasing direction hysteresis in a semiconductor ring laser

Abstract

Wavelength and lasing direction hysteresis and dynamics in a semiconductor ring laser with varying current or temperature is explained as stemming from dissimilar nonlinear gain spectra in both propagation directions. Simulation results closely match experiment.
