Optical amplification and lasing in self-written active waveguide

Abstract

A novel type of self-formed active waveguide structure is proposed. The waveguides are self-aligned with input/output fibers and can be easily made to have optical feedback cavities. The optical amplification and laser oscillation were demonstrated.
