Receiver Sensitivity Improvement using Decision-Aided Maximum Likelihood Phase Estimation in Coherent Optical DQPSK System with Nonlinear Phase Noise

Abstract

We propose a decision-aided maximum likelihood phase estimation receiver for a nonlinear-phase-noise-dominant coherent optical DQPSK system, which requires only linear computation and improves the receiver sensitivity by 3 dB compared to differential detection.
