Impulsive Alignment of Hot, Centrifugally Distorted, Molecules

Abstract

We achieve impulsive alignment in a 400K sample of diatomic iodine. Polarization measurements of rotational wave-packet revivals reveal dispersed oscillatory structures. These structures are due to centrifugal distortion resulting from the high temperature.
