Creating RZ Data Modulation Formats using Parallel Silicon Microring Modulators for Pulse Carving in DPSK

Abstract

We propose ultra-small silicon microring-based pulse carvers operated at 10 Gb/s. RZ-DPSK transmitter is obtained in chip-size of only tens of μm2 and exhibits lower power-penalty than MZM-based one by 1.7 dB in data transmission.
