Ultrafast switching of nanostructure in fused silica

Abstract

Femtosecond switching of anisotropic nanostructure indicating birefringence with a time constant of ±200fs was observed. Such anisotropy has evolved by lowering threshold for defect formation and enhanced coherency of the electron plasma wave.
