Abstract
We theoretically and experimentally study the variation of giant modal birefringence in multi-slotted silicon nanophotonic waveguides, comprised of four air slots etched longitudinally along the waveguide, for different low index filling fractions. We compare experimental observations with the predictions of an analytically derived effective-medium theory, and FDFD numerical simulations.
