Abstract
The number and scope of applications of linear in-fibre Bragg gratings have increased rapidly in the last few years. It is therefore natural to investigate the nonlinear properties of these structures, and to consider possible applications of these effects. While theoretical work on the nonlinear properties of Bragg gratings has been underway for several years, experimental work has been pursued only since relatively recently.
